I love this piece, the pictures doesn't quite do it justice, the sleeves have cream lace accents at the top of the black velvet and a rhinestone bow application is hand sewn at the collar.

Pretty and delicate silvery raglan mini dress with shear white sleeves and square peek a boo.

Crush black velvet raglan mini dress with sweater sleeves ( a little gold is woven into the stripes too) ultra comfy and lux enough for a holiday party.

Mmmm more crush velvet with a pretty lace heart accent. This lace is my favorite right now, so soft and stretchy and pretty.

So simple and so pretty, crush velvet with some little not so pearls hand sewn for a little light and accent.

This is a new pattern, I wanted a sheer square shape in the front of my simple raglan pieces. Just a little sexy added to this comfortable stripe tunic.

Another new pattern, sort of sweatshirty, with shoulder accents in the front and back, with some added sleeve action.

Black and red raglan tunic with keyhole accent. This black and red fabric is thick yet very soft and stretchy, perfect for keeping warm on a cold day.

Red raglan mini dress with hounds tooth sleeves and asymmetrical accent.

Rock and roll hoodie mini dress. Hood and sleeves made with black and white animal print with pink flowers. This dress would be great for a concert or just a night at the movies.

I love this mini dress! Grey raglan dress with nude lace back accent and sleeves. After I tried this on I had to keep one for myself (I made 2) I'm wearing it right now!

I've been thinking about what I want to make for fall, and now I'm acting on it, I turned the V neck tunics into more of a dress with wide ribbing at the bottom. I made this pattern off of one of my favorite closet staples.

New goods just left Seattle yesterday, and are landing in Cleveland Ohio, at the wonderful Blush Boutique, check it out!

Tan and brown hounds tooth v neck with pink floral feathers.

I'm in love with this raglan tunic, big pink and gray flowers, with some stripe sparrows and some back stripe surprise action. This top is so soft and comfy, the fabric has a wonderful drape

Skulls and lace, one of my favorite combination's.

This fabric is Amazing! Black and white print with the profile of a girl with a pony tail and red lipstick.

I really like to wear the raglan tunics with capri shorts and flats, it makes me feel like Audry Hepburn, and you can't go wrong feeling like that.

I love to add lace accents to my simple knit pieces, I decided to add them to the back this summer I like the sexy yet modest feel of this style.

The one and only Spring 2011

A love of fashion spawns a love of seasons. I'm looking forward to wearing tunics and dresses and frolicking in the daisies, well, actually I'll be strolling the streets of Seattle with an iced mocha in hand soaking in some much needed Vitamin D. So, with the new upcoming season comes change, a few new patterns to try out (knit dresses this year) and a few revamps to last years dresses.

the first of 2 new knit dress patterns I'm working on, I'm a fan of anything pretty and stretchy.

PS the galactic background is a sheet that's going to be a dress soon too.

I did some very fun vintage shopping when I went back to Nebraska, I was delighted to find a new store open in my home town. It's called Curiosities and I found these goodies:

Lace Victorian style blouse with buttons along the cuffs (fancy) Beaded earrings and boots from Value Village, Belt from the Fremont Antique Mall, Black straight skirt from the Pretty Parlor.

This is a dress! Black and white polka dot tie with buttons at the top, and black thick cotton at the bottom. Pillbox hat, gloves, and platform tennis shoes found at Value Village. Red belt found at Aprie and the tights are from Target.

Black Gothic/Victorian dress! Feather hair piece by Violette Magpie from the Pretty Parlor, Gold rose belt from Ciaro, Zombie Girl cameo earrings from etsy, and sexy white boots from the Pretty Parlor.

Do you ever wonder if fashion designers have clothing crisis situations? Well, I defiantly have many a clothing crisis. Your getting ready to meet a friend out for the evening, or going out on a first or second date, on your way to work for the day and hoping to go out later, what do you wear? What are you going to end up doing? Will you regret your clothing decision half way through the day or evening? My solution, tunics, stretchy pants, and boots. Stretchy pants are comfy and can be sexy, boots (depending on the heal) can be uber chic, and comfortable enough to walk in all day or dance in all night. Ahhh the tunic, kind of like a sexy dress and jammies all together in one. Depending on the cut, you can accent your curves, and cover up any happy hour tummy fullness. Also, layering and accessories, long necklaces, textured scarves, and sweater vests (long or short) shortie jackets, and cardigans. So you can take the same outfit all over and make it new and occasion appropriate.

I was literally delighted this morning as I was making this first Seahoodie, notice the tiny whales on the hood lining, I love the big hood, the big cuffs, the big zipper, and the moderately sized octopus.

Next is the wet octopus reconstructed sweatshirt, with a zipper in the front! The fabric is from Volcom sweatshirt sleeves (next up, what I'm gonna do with the torso) It's a wet puss sweatshirt, so dirty, but not really.....

oh! fun wide yoke skirts for all your fabulous fall frolicking! These skirts are screaming to be worn with your favorite sweater (or kombat knit raglan tunic) and a pair of boots. I know many of us dread pleats but the flattering yoke on these skirts make them work, also, POCKETS! that's all.

I'm still making some bubble dresses, this one has a flannel bodice with wilderness animals on it, it's lined with the same yummy soft fabric to keep your titties warm this fall. I can picture this dress with a cardigan, and a jean jacket, perhaps a rustic pair of cowboy boots....Also the feather earring is something I want to make more of, one long asymmetrical earring, what do you think?

This dress I want to call the ladies of the Renaissance and plaid. This dress has a fall feel but could be a spring piece too,depending on how you wear it.

I'm gonna make stretchy pants this year! Notice the fun zippers at the bottom, oh yeah. This top is new too, just completed the first one last night, yummy black silky fabric that is so comfy, super fun for layering in the fall and winter, wool vests? yes! cable knit sweaters? hell yeah! This top has black ribbing on the sleeves and on the bottom, the back has a little opening with a pretty frog closure.

Shopping on etsy is so much more satisfying than frequenting big businesses, it's very clear how much little artisans really appreciate your appreciation of what they love to do ( I totally know how they feel) I wonder sometimes if people notice how happy people make me when they buy an iteam I made, from me? As many of you know I get to hang out at the Pretty Parlor on Capital Hill 2 days a week, when a girl is at a Pretty Parlor she has to make herself pretty. This week was nice and warm so I wore a Native Bohemian look,

Today I figured out how to take pictures of myself with my new camera. I want to share with everyone just how much I love to dress up, even when taking my self out to sushi, (new place on Capital hill called Genki Sushi). I've had some fantastic trips to the thrift store lately! I'm finding some great vintage woven fabrics (like the floral bubble dress). It's like a 50's dream come true. The red polka dot fabric is new but it's lookin' very retro, and classic. How can you go wrong with red and white polka dots toped with a black lace bow? I'm making lots of sun dresses like the olive green calico with vintage pilgram fabric. I really like the big old ships on this fabric. I actually cut out more halter dresses today, and the black and white silk halter with vintage floral cotton is a lovley example, when I put it on my dress form I thought "how classy".As always I'm trying to make as many re constructed blouses and knit pieces as I can. They are so comfortable and wearable! All of these gems are on there way to Needles and Pens in San Fransico.

This was the last super fun photo shot with Tim Jenson. PS his mom was awesome and brought us snacks.
I love how he and the super sexy models captured my raglan knit pieces. And doesn't Olivia look great in Kombat Casalettos octo-polo? New Age Dave West is looking dapper as usual in pink, with a pink haired Angel sporting a raglan tunic with pockets (I love the stretchy oatmeal eyelet). Lyda's lookin' sweet and sexy in a sun dress/tunic, and Casaletto himself is working a zipper T with suspenders (what a trend setter).
Tanisha looks just like a pin up girl in this red and black pic nic dress.
And for the last, the designers themselves stacked up, and Dan in his comfort zone, getting beat up by 2 women. Beth does look great delivering pain in a Kombat Casaletto zipper tank.

I'm married to this Game...

and I love my wife. The last month or so I've been thinking about my financial woes and wondering if I should give this little designing dream up. With a little soul searching and a few conversations with family and friends I mustered the strength I needed to realize that I'm completely in love with what I do. I'm often stressed, exhausted, and really really afraid, but I want to make, change, fix, and talk to people about garments for the rest of my life. I know I'm not saving anyone and I'm certain it's not the true love story we all hear about but it really is mine. So here I continue, for better or for worse.

Lately I've been cutting the hell out of some fabric and was feeling a little intimidated by the giant pile of mangled dress and tunic parts on my sewing room floor. Making one of a kind garments is challenging in that way because I kind of work like a one-girl-factory, I have all these different colors and fabrics to worry about. But I set 'em up and knocked 'em down in the last few days and here's a taste.

I created a new raglan tunic too, I was inspired by my weekend job at the Pretty Parlor, while steaming a little pink and white 60's dress I decided to put some accent panels with curve in the tunics. The dresses are Oh so much fun to make but they are rather time consuming. Each and every one of these is one of a kind. I'm loving the colors in the sun and halter dresses, and I'm so happy to have some eyelet fabric the play with. The wolf bubble dress turned out extra special. Oh, and the plaid bubble with the bow is made from Ralph Lauren sheets. Just a fun fact.

This is my special bloggy thank you to one of my very closest friends. A woman who bravely dares to understand.

I can ask her at a couple hours notice to MC a fashion show (she shows up happily wearing one of my pieces). She will model for me, it seems, any where and any time (even pregnant on antiquated roller skates) She will drop everything she's doing to walk with me when my hearts been broken, she'll even call to see where my car has been taken the night before her wedding. I don't always understand Beth Roberts but I've known her long enough to know that she is admirably, uniquely, and unapologetically herself. Fortunately for me she's also hot.

The Color of Spring

These are some super sweet photos from Kombats last fashion show held on the first Thursday of March. My goal was to make all the models look like delicious little pieces of candy. This spring I'm gonna relish in color so when you put on one of my dresses you'll be sweet enough for Marie Antoinette to eat!

Sitting Pretty

Are you thinking the fabulous fashion and over all "prettyness" at the Pretty Parlor come to a close when the open sign is off? If you are then your sadly mistaken. One rainy evening in February Beth Roberts and I had a well documented girly evening complete with a trip to the Mac counter (I feel so much lovelier when someone else does my make up). Rebecca LaGuire did some click click clicking of her camera while we pranced about the Parlor in some of my new spring creations. For the first round we donned some bubble dresses, I'm in a black and white check gingham strapless bubble (classic!) with a black and white plaid Dylan Rupert head band while Beth wears one of my favorites, a pucci like bubble dress worthy of a princess. Then we hit the pink satin couch in some fun sun dresses, always a summer favorite (bring on the sun). The evening proceeds with some maxi dresses (Beth in a navy and orange floral halter, and me in a country-tastic pony sun maxie) and my bread and butter for the summer, fun comfy knit tunics with pockets......and re invented empire waist blouses that I make from mens dress and work shirts. Lace is the order of the day when I put these tasty little garments together. Lace to replace the collar, and little lace cap sleeves. I'm thinkin' these little tops will also be great this fall with your favorite cardigan or light jacket. Gotta love a garment you can keep in your closet all year long.

A special thanks to the lovely lady LaGuire for her photo skills and precious time. Thank you Beth Roberts for being so hot, and thanks Anna Banana for letting us take over the Parlor for an evening there was absolutely no dearth of accessories to frost ourselves in.

Fashion Show Dreams

If you haven't seen the 1939 movie "The Women", your missing out. If you haven't seen the fashion show (the only part of the movie in color) well here it is! If I could make some semblance of this happen at Kombat Casalettos' near monthly fashion shows I would be in heaven. This isn't just models walking, this is pop up book, live action beauty. Not to mention the amazing vintage clothing.

Spring and Spring Transitions

I'm working on Spring! I know we're all still too cold to even dream about sleeveless shirts and sundresses, but one of my favorite things about fashion is layering, start browsing your wardrobe and channel your creativity through it to create some "new" wardrobes out of your closet. Have fun ! How bout finding some fantastic short sleeved tunics that you can pair with warm tights and your favorite jacket and a beautiful scarf. What about some pretty floral frocks and sundresses with a cozy knit cardigan. I'm a big fan of integrating my favorite summer pieces with winter goodies and in Seattle we never know what the weathers gonna do, so with fun layering I'm ready for anything!

Inspiration!

After a long hiatus from blogging I'm thinking about inspiration. I've put together my cork board of images and I'm getting excited about spring! I'm loving the idea of Gingham, reminiscent of Bridget Bardough, that I saw in Christopher Kanes line which also brought me to a super scary Sedgwick like tunic I'm so fond of making. The fashion of Victor and Rolf is always an inspiration, the ruffles, stripes, and textures, the way the patterns lay together so artfully! I'll be showing you what I'm cookin' up for spring SOON SOON SOON!

I'm falling in love with high collars, lace, and puff sleeves.

I had no idea that in 1860 four significant facts seriously affected fashion of the future. Firstly the sewing machine had been invented, secondly clothes would in future couture designers would lead the way, thirdly synthetic dyes would make available intense colours. And lastly in 1860 the crinoline domed skirt silhouette had a flattened front and began to show a dramatic leaning toward the garment back.

This dress is just the beginning! I'm planning to have dresses with may layered skirts that can be lifted up with tabs, textured multi-colored skirts with lace like Glam Garb by Gunlis, and beautifully crafted garment backs with lace, buttons, and sometimes both! You get the idea LACE! and impeccable tailoring.

Little Edie : One Must Mave the Right Costume for the Day.

I recently watched an old film called "How to Steal a Million" with Audrey Hepburn, and I was immediately inspired by the lace mask she wore.

Lucky for me I'm a fashion designer and part time stylist so my inspiration was not wasted. In this November photo shoot by Tim Jensen my ever evolving fall line is displayed with defiant/sexy poses and, of course lace masks. The eiffel tower dress is made from recycled materials including chiffon puff sleeves and vintage lace at the high collar. I lovingly referred to this dress, while I was making it, as "Paris is Burning"

I feel so lucky to have found the grey fabric that inspired the tunic. This fabric is soft, stretchy, and has a classic pattern that can be worn anywhere and anytime. The lace keyhole gives it the perfect little sexy boost!
